Bombardier Recreational Products launched its 2007 range of Evinrude E-Tec engines on the Gold Coast in November. Daniel Nash joined the media pack to put a range of E-Tec’s to the test on the local waterways

The Marriot Hotel in Surfers Paradise proved the perfect setting for BRP Australia to showcase its range of Evinrude E-Tec outboards that you’ll find at your local dealership for 2007. After a technical presentation from a variety of E-Tec representatives, the Australian marine media were afforded the opportunity to test the outboards on a variety of hulls.

Hulls showcased at the launch included a Cruise Craft Resort 6 Bowrider powered by an E-Tec 200hp V6, a Seafarer 5.25 Vamp powered by an 115hp V4, and a Haines Hunter Prostrike powered by an 150hp HO. We’ll bring you the lowdown on these hulls and more that featured at Surfers Paradise over coming issues of TrailerBoat.

Each hull proved a good match for its corresponding engine, which comes with an E-Tec Value proposition, of which there are four key principles.

According to E-Tec, their range of outboards are easy to own and operate. Once you take your new E-Tec out onto the water there’s no dealer maintenance required for three years or 300 hours of normal recreational use. An E-Tec also requires no break-in period.

E-Tec claims to be cleaner and quieter than its competitors. Each engine comes with a three-star rating under the Voluntary Emission Labelling Scheme, which will take effect on January 1, 2007. An example of how quiet an E-Tec runs was illustrated by the 200hp that powered the Cruise Craft Resort 6 Bowrider.

The company says it uses the most robust engine components, has an extra capacity water pump and minimal moving parts via its beltless charging system, while performance does not compromise style.

WHAT THEY SAY ABOUT E-TEC
KAJ (BUSCHY) BUSCH – ANGLER
“I’m no maintenance person so I especially like the fact I can run my E-Tec for 300 hours without servicing. My Evinrude E-Tec has survived the Buschy treatment, which counts for a lot in my books.”

PAUL WORSTELING AND LEE RAYNER – iFISH TV
“We don’t have to wake the neighbours anymore! If we get home at 2am it’s just a matter of attaching the hose. The engine is cleaned without even starting it. Now that’s smart.”
