Quicksilver says boat owners can buy a quality bimini straight off the shelf and fit it themselves with nothing more than a drill bit and screwdriver!

Until now, said Quicksilver, boaties looking for some shade only had two choices - go to the trouble and considerable expense of having a bimini professionally fitted, or buy a boxed version and suffer the disappointment which comes with a low-quality product.

But now they can enjoy the best of both worlds, claim Quicksilver.

The range of box-packaged biminis are a lower-cost alternative which have been specifically crafted to meet Quicksilver's high standards.

They are wind rated to 40kts, composed of 600 denier material for long life, supports are polished alloy, all fittings are UV-rated, the screws buckles and fittings are stainless steel, and all come with both rear support arms and front straps.

With six models in the range, Quicksilver biminis will fit fibreglass and aluminium boats with a bow width from 1.5 to 2.3m. All models have a throw of 2.1m and all come with a bimini sock.

"There was a big hole in the market. There was no product for people who wanted a high-quality bimini without the expense and delay." said Paul McLean, accessories manager for Mercury Marine Asia-Pacific.

"The feedback we've had from boat owners has been great," he said.
