Beat the beasties

Spring has sprung – and it is not just the flowers and trees that suddenly start growing - all those pesky marine beasties that think boat hulls are paradise also start growing at a furious rate.

One answer to the problem of keeping your hull clean is the 2BSure anti foul system from the Queensland-based Global Marine Group.

2BSure employs two electrodes that are hung from the bow and stern of a vessel and which surround the hull and running gear in a cloud of copper oxide when hooked to a 12 volt battery.

As a welcome to Spring deal, GMG is selling the standard 2Bsure kit all this month for $3400 rather than the normal $3900.

Developed by the Dutch for keeping North Sea marker buoys clear of marine growth, the 2BSure system has been given the tick of approval by environmental bodies around the world. It will work on boats moored at marinas or on swing mooring and tests have shown it works in currents of up to 6-8 knots.

Best of all for powerboat owners who want to keep their hulls looking new, the system requires no initial anti fouling.

Rob Parsonage, the managing director of GMG, says the system will work on boats up to 20 metres long and the easily replaceable electrodes should last for more than a year in most environments.
