Clipper Motor Yachts' new Cordova 48 semi-displacement motor cruiser will be the star of the company's three boat display at this year's Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show.
The Cordova 48 is making its international debut alongside its larger siblings, the popular Cordova 52 and the flagship Cordova 60. The show boat will be only the second example to come out of the factory -- the first having already been snapped up by a new owner in Hong Kong.
Clipper's MD Brett Thurley says the Australian owned and managed company recorded strong sales success throughout 2009 and says it is looking forward to this year's boat show season to build an even stronger local market.
"Our classic styling and long-range cruising ability have struck a chord with the boating market," Thurley says, "We are now able to offer something for virtually everyone who wants to go cruising in style, from the single cabin Heritage 36 -- that is the ideal entry level boat for a couple -- up to the space and luxury of the flagship Cordova 60."
The Cordova 48 is available in either two or three cabin layouts. The two cabin boat features a huge master stateroom in the bow with an island bed and an adjacent en-suite bathroom. Guest accommodation is a two berth cabin to port. A second bathroom is opposite this cabin on the starboard side.
The three cabin layout features an over and under twin berth cabin in place of the second bathroom.
The large saloon gives plenty of space for relaxing or dining and the galley will keep the fussiest cook happy. The flybridge has comfortable seating for six and a small outdoor galley to entertaining easy. There is also room for a tender on the rear second that covers the large cockpit.
With a semi-displacement hull driven by twin 425hp Cummins diesels, the Cordova 48 can sail in two modes. At a comfortable nine knots, the displacement hull gives owners the ability to cruise long distances comfortably and economically. Push the throttles forward, bring the hull up out of the water -- and the yacht can hit a distance-eating 18 knots.
The Brisbane-based Clipper Yachts has also appointed Matthew Willett Marine as its sole agent for its cruisers in NSW. Based at Roseville ridge Marina on Sydney's north shore, the company is headed by Matthew Willett who has twice been named Australasian salesperson of the year.
After a stint in the Royal Australian Navy, Willett gained a Master V commercial skipper's ticket before joining a Sydney boat dealership.
Thurley, Clipper's MD, says he is delighted with the appointment. "We could not be happier, I hold Matt in the highest regard," Thurley says, "He is clearly among the finest marine professionals in Australia."
